Gardening enthusiasts come out to ‘snip’ the roses

The City’s Recreation and Parks Department hosted its second annual Rose Care and Pruning Open Day for beginners and enthusiasts in the Durbanville Rose Garden this past weekend.

The Open Day is an opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to hone their skills in rose care and pruning methods, practicing on the City's own roses at the impressive Durbanville Rose Garden.

The garden has a rich history and is renowned for its beauty, making it the wedding photography venue of choice for many couples over decades.

Opened in 1979, the Durbanville Rose Garden (DRG) spans 3,5 hectares, with an estimated 4 500 bushes of 500 rose cultivars.

Gardening enthusiasts who missed the weekend workshop can also visit on weekdays, between 08:00 and 15:00 from 17 July until 31 July, to refine their pruning skills, with guidance.
